Francisco Toledo Reflection #2

After watching all the group presentations in our Public Speaking class, I ended up learning way more than I thought I would. Reading the book on my own gave me the basic ideas, but seeing different people explain the chapters in their own way made everything click in a much more relatable way. Every group had their own style and personality, and seeing how each one approached their chapters helped me understand public speaking in a more realistic and personal way. Instead of feeling like I was just going through a list of concepts, it felt like I was being shown what those ideas actually look like when people try them out in real life. The first group set the tone for everyone else. Their chapters were about the basics of public speaking, but the way they explained everything made the foundations feel more important than I originally thought. When they talked about understanding your audience and knowing the purpose of your speech, it made me realize how often I skip over those ...
Public Speaking: Personal Reflection on Group Presentations (Chapters 1–17) After going through all the group presentations in our Public Speaking class based on Public Speaking: The Evolving Art , I realized just how many layers there are to becoming an effective speaker. Each group brought a different part of the book to life, and through their examples, visuals, and discussions, I gained a much deeper understanding of what it means to communicate clearly, ethically, and confidently. In this reflection, I’ll go over what I learned from each group and how their presentations helped me grow as a speaker. Group 1 Reflection: Foundations of Public Speaking Group 1 kicked things off with chapters 1, 2, 3, and 5. They set the tone for the rest of the class with a presentation that felt well-structured and easy to follow. Chapter 1 introduced the core concepts of public speaking: understanding your audience, knowing your purpose, and adapting to your environment. It helped me realize th...

Reflection on Presentation Preparation The days of preparation were honestly really calm and well-organized. Our group was lucky to have a dependable leader who made sure everyone stayed on track by reminding us of our tasks and deadlines. At the beginning, we did struggle a little with how to divide and organize our topics. There was some confusion at first, but we had discussions in our group chat and decided to vote on who would handle each section. After some back and forth, we agreed that each person would take on half a chapter and create one slide for each subtopic they were responsible for.  Once roles were set, everyone knew exactly what they needed to do. We aimed to keep the presentation consistent in both style and structure so it would look polished and cohesive. We made sure our slides followed the same format and didn’t disrupt the overall flow or aesthetic. To stay collaborative, we used a shared document where everyone could suggest changes or fix any mistak...

Yovani Aguilarperez - Reflection #1 September 29th, 2025 Yovani Aguilarperez Introduction to Public Speaking Reflections on presentations about chapters 1-17   Reflection on Public Speaking Presentations Sitting through those presentations in my public speaking class felt way different from just flipping through the textbook pages. You know how it is, there's this big difference between getting a concept in your head and watching it happen live, all messy and real. I watched my classmates go first, then it was my turn to get up there. It turned into this hands-on thing where everything we read about got tested right in front of us. Each group had stuff they did well and spots where they could improve. I came out of it with a better grip on what turns a presentation from okay to something that sticks with people. This wasn't really about the grade for me. It was more like seeing how communication actually works when it's alive. Group #1 Presentation Group one started us off ...

Nancy Felipe - Reflection #1

Nancy Felipe  SPC2608 Reflection on Presentations On Chapters 1–17 Reflecting on all the presentations, I’ve come to see that public speaking is more than just delivering information—it’s about creating an experience that resonates with the audience. In today’s world, information is at the tips of our thumbs thanks to technology. What truly matters is how we present it in a way that inspires curiosity, understanding, and engagement. Group #1 This group spoke to us about the foundational principles of public speaking. Their presentation focused on building confidence, what the general population needs, and ways to adapt to certain audiences. This presentation opened my eyes to the importance of confidence in a speech and the ways it can influence how your speech will go. One of their key points was the idea that confidence in public speaking is not innate but developed through practice. Techniques such as rehearsing alone or with a friend can help overcome the initial fear of speak...
